Today we read a story about the Arctic together. We used a graphic organizer to keep track of our connections.
Words in Text My Connections
Then we used our notes from our graphic organizer to help us write a blog entry.
Example
The article we read on the Arctic was great. It reminded me of a television show that I saw about polar bears in Churchill Manitoba. When I read about the Arctic Circle, I remembered a book that I read that discussed how cold it was at the Arctic Circle.
What are your connections?

A reading strategy that I like to use when I am reading is making connections. When we read it is important to connect what we are reading to ourself, other text and the world. We discussed this strategy and identified various connections for the story about Rosa Parks. Here are some of our connections to this story.
Brenden - When Marissa’s legs were sore, he was reminded of his sore legs after his soccer game. MsG was reminded of how mushy her legs felt after three days of skiing. Mark remembers doing drills in football and having real sore legs. Jeff played hockey and got very sore legs.
When Rosa Parks refused to move reminded Ms G and Mark of Martin Luther King. He had a dream that we would be equal no matter the color of our skin.
Trystan was reminded of being treated unfairly when he was four. Somebody would always take all of his stuff and that didn’t feel very good.
Ms G was reminded of another book that she read. “A Picture Book of Martin Luther King” talked about Luther wanting equal rights for African American people. That is exactly what Rose Parks wanted.
Now that we have done a story together, choose a story from Raz Kids. Think about your connections as you read…you could jot notes about your connections. Write about some of your connections.
